ASU May Contribute to Developing Shared Infrastructure for Scientists

Russian science needs to be rid of “parochialism” and made more flexible. It was stated by the head of the Educational Center “Sirius” Elena Shmeleva.
According to Elena Shmeleva, every scientific school should be ready to provide scientists with all the conditions to work, which help to achieve nationally significant goals. Such project is implemented at the Sirius Center, where access to the scientific infrastructure is open to scientists and postgraduates.

“It is necessary to create a shared platform for young scientists who for one reason or another cannot realize their research potential in their universities. To do this, it is necessary to examine the available laboratories and chairs with which we can interact or whose infrastructure we can use,” the head of Sirius said.

Moreover, Elena Shmeleva suggested expanding the grant system by increasing the number of grants and their amount to encourage young researchers, as well as by implementing a program of employer-sponsored training in postgraduate school. The main goal of these innovations is the development of scientific life in the regions.

Universities of the Astrakhan region also strive to develop scientific infrastructure. Thus, Astrakhan State University applied for participation in the Priority 2030 Program. The priority system of the university includes the creation of scientific system for personnel growth, improvment of the environment for accelerated development of young people from 18 to 24 years in the natural science, technical and digital areas, integration and interaction of scientific schools, centers and laboratories with partner universities on cross-cutting projects. The development program until 2030 provides for the formation of ASU as the core of an innovative scientific and educational cluster, resource and expert-analytical center of the Caspian macroregion.

“The ASU development program is aimed at creation of comfortable urban environment for students, young scientists and teachers. The region will become a center for attracting specialists from other cities and countries to develop scientific initiatives and ideas, and business will receive and implement future developments in production and hire qualified personnel. Each project presented in the application is focused on these goals,” Rector of ASU, Konstantin Markelov commented.
